WEEK 19 INJURY REPORT

As the Big Game approaches, it is inevitable to see an increase in players going in and out of the lineup due to injury. Some of the most common football injuries are ankle sprains, meniscus/knee injuries, hamstring and groin strains. While some injuries are due to overuse, most injuries tragically occur in play.

According to the NCAA: “Football players are nearly seven times more likely to be injured during a game than in practice. The overall injury rate in NCAA football is 8.1 injuries per 1,000 athlete exposures (games and practices combined). There were more than 41,000 injuries and 25 million athlete exposures from 2004 to 2009.”

The most common injuries for football players:

Strains/Sprains from Overuse or Injury – 39%

Cuts/Bruises – 25%

Dislocations (most commonly shoulder or knee) – 15%

Fractures (overuse stress fractures and game day injuries) – 10%

Defensive lineman for San Francisco’s 49ers tweaked his hamstring and aggravated his quadricep, but should be able against the Vikings on Saturday.

Kentavius Street

Defensive end for San Francisco’s 49ers was placed on the injured reserve after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery following a history of knee tendonitis.

Mike Iupati

Offensive lineman for the Seattle Seahawks suffers from a neck injury during week 17 and is seeking a second opinion before returning.

Ezekiel Ansah

Defensive end, Ziggy Ansah, for the Seattle Seahawks left the NFC Wild Card Game against the Philadelphia Eagles due to a neck injury and he will not return.

Marquise Blair

Safety for the Seattle Seahawks, Marquise Blair, is suffering from an ankle injury.

Duane Brown

Left tackle for the Seattle Seahawks continues to recover from minor knee surgery to trim a meniscus. With only a two-to-three-week recovery period, it is possible Brown could return in the playoffs. Brown hasn’t played since Week 15 but is going to play for the first time in four games following meniscus surgery.

George Fant

Tight end for Seattle Seahawks, George Fant, suffering from a groin injury he got the previous week during Seattle’s wild-card game at Philadelphia is listed as active for Sunday.

Quinton Jefferson

Defensive lineman for the Seattle Seahawks suffered a broken foot in the divisional round loss to the Packers.

Dan Vitale

Running back for the Green Bay Packers picked up a knee injury during a win over the Vikings and has been sidelined since.

Kenneth Clark

Packers’ top defensive lineman is listed as active following a back injury.

Jayon Brown

Tennessee Titans starting linebacker Jayon Brown suffered a shoulder injury during a wild-card win over the Patriots.

Adam Humphries

Wide receiver for the Tennessee Titans is out due to an ankle injury. He hasn’t practiced since he was injured during a Dec. 1 victory over Indianapolis.

Cody Hollister

Wide receiver for the Tennessee Titans is undoubtedly battling a high-ankle sprain since week 13.

Mark Andrews

According to the Baltimore Ravens, Mark Andrews ankle injury is not 100% yet, but he will still play.

Mark Ingram

Running back for the Baltimore Ravens Mark Ingram nursed a calf injury this week, but is listed as active.

Jahleel Addae

Left safety for the Houston Texans, Jahleel Addae injured his knee after being pinned under a mass of players making a tackle on another running back in the Buffalo Bills game.

Jordan Akins

The tight end for Houston Texans suffered an in-practice setback due to a hamstring injury.

Keion Crossen

Crossen is considered questionable for Sunday’s matchup with the Chiefs due to a hamstring injury.

Darren Fells

Tight end for Houston Texans, Darren Fells was a late addition to the team’s injury report due to a hip injury but is slated to play.

William Fuller

Texans wide receiver Will Fuller was limited with a groin injury he has been dealing with for the last couple of weeks.

Johnathan Joseph

Cornerback Johnathan Joseph for the Houston Texans injured the hamstring in Week 17 after just seven plays but is listed as active.

Kenneth Stills

Stills suffered a knee injury but is expected to play in Sunday’s divisional-round playoff game against the Chiefs.

Chris Jones

The Kansas City Chief’s defensive tackle is nursing a calf injury sustained during Thursday’s practice, the severity of which will cause him to sit out for the AFC Championship Game against Houston.

Travis Kelce

Kansas City Chiefs tight end injured his hamstring in the first half of the Texans game.
